Peeps -- was thinking that the special might be needing new rings -- couple of techie questions
1. How do I know if I need new rings or a re-bore? 2. How do I know what size of rings to get if it's just the rings?
Cheers G

Take the barrel off the piston, check the rings are free to move around and no gummed up and the recess is clear, line up rings , compress and insert piston into barrel if a tight fit they should be fine if to easy the rings are done. If standard barrel should be easy to source if not a micrometer could measure more accuratly

If pistons nd rings look shagged just replace , maybe get the baeeel honed as they can go smooth or glazed which reduces friction , Rab McKay does barrel honing

Rings off piston place in the barrel check with feeler gauge 0.30mm is ideal anything above 0.70 You should replace. You'll know how many mile you've done ?

Cheers Boys -- not sure how many miles the rings have done -- I've done a good 10k since I got the engine replaced -- not sure how many miles it done before I got it -- I think the feeler gauge might be the ticket.
If I do need new rings how do I know what size? do I just micrometre the piston diameter?

aye, pal -- I think I've done 3 seasons worth on it, maybe just 2 now I think of it & I get close to 3k a year, the issue might be how many clicks it done before I got it -- the compression is poor, struggles to start hot BUT runs well ??
