Guys -- just got my fist bike with an open mouthed carb (30mm dellorto) with a ancilotti clubman and 200 lump. I've only ever had standard carbs breathing through the box.
Just cant seem to get the thing started quickly when cold -- it fires up eventually but after many, many kicks, fuel on & off, choke on & off, me on & off -- just wondering of anyone has any "Inside info" on getting this s2 lump of mine started when cold?
Cheers - Granty

Start with checking the grade of plug After a run do you turn off petrol then engine Used to put my hand over the carb when kicking Pilot jet wrong s When turning on petrol give time for the bowl to fill up Trade my Li 185 engine standard carb plus some cash for the 200 lump ?? Buy a gts ??

Cheers Norrie -- changed the plug to suit the one I have in the special -- need to look at the pilot (choke) jet I think. I like your idea about letting the bowl enough time to fill up -- I'll just be patient with it & see what I can find out -- G

12v buddy -- good spark & compression, I'm opening the throttle just now -- I do that with the special, I'll try with choke on, no throttle and see what happens -- I think I may also try upping the pilot jet to 60 ish & see if that helps

Look into the mouth of the carb where you can see the brass plunger of the choke operating. Turn the choke lever on and see if the plunger lifts clear off the hole. If not adjust to suit. My carb has a 50 pilot 70 choke av266 atomiser x7 needle and a 40 slide. Mixture screw 2turns out. All above is just a suggestion.

Av266? I keep multiport 225 kits cool with this atomiser! Nige has a 30mm on his I'm sure he uses an AV264 in his? And wots with this "Hibernian" handle! that dept is well over subscribed here!

Grant are you using that auld exhaust o mine? Ps Scotty......I like the sound of this new guy he seems to know what he's talking aboot Long story pal -- bought a new clubman for the Special after the end pipe snapped of the old one, when I stripped it I realised I had lost an exhaust stud, new one in - new pipe - braw. Then had a look at the S2's pipe & I see a small split right under the ancilotti clubman's main box (gonna try some exhaust tape 1st & then see how it goes). Boab has offered the use of an AF clubman replacement which I need to collect. No rush as it still needs fork bearings done & new MOT magic - G
